At tryouts, coaches are observing the following:

  • Tumbling difficulty

  • Tumbling execution

  • Athleticism

  • Dance ability and showmanship

  • Ability to accept and apply instruction

  • Stunting position (flyer, base, backspot)

  • Jump technique

  • Overall attitude

Jumps

 

The approach, arm placement, leg placement/ flexibility, landing, and timing.

 

Single Jump/ Jump Sequence

  • Single jump into back handspring is required. Single jump into tuck or better is preferred.

 

  • Jump sequence (2+ jumps) into back handspring is required..

  • Jump sequence (2+ jumps) into tuck or better is preferred.

Tumbling - Non Spring Floor

 

The technique, body control, landing, and timing.

 

Standing Tumbling

  • Standing two back handsprings into layout or better is required.

  • Standing Tuck is required.

 

Running Tumbling

  • Running round off back handspring layout or better is required.

Stunting

 

Partner Stunt / Pyramid

  • Flyer: body control, flexibility, motion placement, legs straight/locked and toes pointed. *Switch up liberty and heel stretch with full down cradle is required.

 

  • Base/Backspot: stability of stunt, solid stance, feet stationary, shoulder position

 

Toss

  • Flyer: body control, consistent execution of skill/trick, legs straight/locked and toes pointed, arm placement. *Toe touch basket is required. Kick double, tuck basket, or better is preferred.

 

  • Base/Backspot: use of arms and legs to throw, solid stance, shoulder position, timing

 

Males

  • See above requirements for partner stunt/pyramid and toss

  • Toss to hands (extension) required, Liberty or cupie preferred.
